In or near Chicago - The LA&M relies on volunteers to catalog,
sort and do basic preservation work on the collections. Ongoing volunteers spend 2 - 3
hours per week (or every other week) working on a designated collection of their choice.
In addition to the ongoing volunteers, the LA&M also relies on members of
Chicagos leather community to pitch in on one shot volunteer days.
Currently held once a month, volunteers who cant commit to a regular volunteer
schedule can work on various projects.
Outside of Chicago - Theres a myth that the only way
non-Chicagoans can help the LA&M is by sending monetary donations. This is
truly a false myth. The LA&M relies on people who live outside of Chicago to help out
by:
Collecting leather / BDSM history in your home city
Printing paper copies of websites and other electronic information
| Offer to be a historian for your local club by focusing on preserving the clubs
history |
Keep a running stock of LA&M brochures at clubs, stores and bars in your area
Conduct research on an aspect of your citys leather history
Conduct an oral history with an elder in your community
Create a small display of your citys leather history
Clip leather/BDSM/fetish related articles from your local gay or mainstream press
Create or join the Leather Friendship Fund in your own city
Or you can donate your time as a Vacation Volunteer.
