Biographical Note

Robert Guenther was involved in the New York City gay and leather communities from the early 1970s through the early 1990s. He was a member of Cycle MC during their last two years of existence and contributed to their publication Wheels Magazine. Robert has attended Chicago Hellfire Club's run Inferno since 1984 and is an associate member of that club. In 1990, he moved from Kingston, NY to Montgomery Village, MD due to work relocation. In Maryland, Bob was an active member and officer of SigMa and involved with the charitable foundation, Brother Help Thyself.

Robert wrote REFLECTIONS On Being Gay, A Musical Revue during his time in New York. He had TOSOS (The Other Side Of Silence), a gay theater company in New York, in mind for producing the show when he wrote it. Robert re-worked the musical in 1982 for Wheels MC to produce while that club was having difficulties with Tams-Whitmark toward producing a licensed musical during their run. By the time Robert was finished re-working the piece, the relationship with Tams-Whitmark had been patched up and REFLECTIONS was not produced by Wheels MC.

Detailed Description of the Collection

The collection consists of four spiral bound music writing books and three scripts. Two of the bound music writing books are sketches of the vocal and instrumental score. The other two bound music writing books are penned in ink and are titled "Reflections : A Musical Revue in 2 Acts". The first script has a revised date of 7/18/76 and is accompanied by a letter addressed to Bruce Shenton. The letter includes notes about the vocal and instrumental scores and sound recording. The second script is a draft dated 6/5/82. The collection also includes a print out of notes sent by Robert via email to the Leather Archives. These notes pertain to attempts to get the work published and inspirations for creating the work.

The collection also includes two audio cassette tapes. The cassette tapes were recorded by Robert and contain him playing the piano and singing the score of the show.
