Biographical Note

The Lexington Lyons Levi/Leather Club began in 1998. According to materials found within the collection, the mission for the Lexington Lyons Levi/Leather Clubs was to: “Bring together individuals interested in the Leather Lifestyle for Mutual support and brotherhood. To provide principled leadership to the Kentucky Leather Community, to help educate the larger Gay community, and the General Public at Large. Also to provide fundraising for Charitable causes.” (Lyons Leather/Levi Inc., brochure.)

The club facilitated meetings at least once a month and kept notes on most of the meetings and records for the various upcoming events. Moreover, the club advocated that member travel to create bonds with other leather clubs throughout the country. Members were encouraged to attend annual leather conventions and were urged to participate in contests.

Another major contribution made by the Lexington Lyons was their contributions to charities. The Lexington Lyons Leather/Levi maintained several annual events such as bar nights, annual yard sales, and would participate in travel events.

The Lexington Lyons functioned as a Levi/Leather club until June 28, 2010. In October 2010, the club donated their collection to the Leather Archives & Museum.
