Mark Orsen lived and died in England where his career as a fine artist was quite spectacular. We don’t know if he ever had what is called “A Royal Patent,” but he had at least a few Royal Commissions to do portraits of important figures. It’s been rumored that Elizabeth II sat for him several times, but we cannot confirm that for sure.
A picture Joseph Bean shot for Drummer of a motorcyclist sitting on a log that was based on an Orsen drawing. Mark was not a prolific erotic artist as far as one could tell from the few items published in America and the very few originals that ever circulated here, but his work was wonderful. Oddly, since he was a fine artist, his erotic art (what we have seen of it) was clearly made for reproduction. That is, he didn’t “finish” things as if they were to be treasured in and of themselves. Patches in paintings, tape in drawings, etc. was normal. |
