Privacy Policy
It is the intent of the Leather Archives & Museum to respect the
private nature of its collections and donors.
- Donation Imposed Restriction Statements
It is the policy of the LA&M to fully comply with donor imposed
restriction statements, both on monetary and collection donations. For monetary
donations, it is the responsibility of the Treasurer to assure that restriction statements
are reasonable and in writing before the donation is accepted. It is also the
responsibility of the Treasurer to ensure that the restrictions are executed properly.
For donations to the collections, responsibility shall lie with the professional
staff member(s) responsible for acquisitions and access. Acquisition responsibility
includes assurance that access restriction statements are reasonable and in writing before
accepting the donation. Access responsibility includes familiarity with and proper
execution of access restrictions.
- Collection access: General privacy
Access to special collections and personal archives is granted on a case
by case basis to qualified researchers. It is the responsibility of the
professional staff providing access to determine proper qualifications. In cases
where a researcher is deemed not to be qualified for a specific collection, the Executive
Committee of the Board of Directors shall provide guidance to the professional staff.
- Public release of related party names:
Donors last names may not be published except for the following
cases:
- The donors name has been publicly published elsewhere related to a
leather/BDSM group, organization or contest. Sources include, but are not limited
to the WWW, magazines and books. Publication in a private manner (club newsletter,
restricted access website, or club roster not publicly available) should not serve as
basis to publish last names.
- The donor has expressly (currently or in the past) provided permission to
publish their name.
